Imagination Technologies

Will Imagination go back to publishing their own Windows reference drivers for SGX (like in the Kyro days)?
It is not Imagination’s objective to publish our own drivers. We continue to look at this possibility, but do not have any plans to do this for Windows at the moment. We are more focused on working closely with Intel so that all their ODMs and OEM customers can deliver the best performance out of the box.

Is Imagination influencing driver development at Intel and can we expect better 3D performance from Intel drivers in the future?
We are indeed working very closely with Intel to ensure that future generations of Atom and other products from them using both our SGX graphics and VXD video technologies deliver the best possible performance out of the box, both for Windows as well as for Linux.
Remember SGX has been designed first and foremost for mobile and embedded applications, so current silicon are optimised for power per mm2, not to compete with PC graphics chipsets. However, we have now announced many more SGX cores as well as multi-processor versions which we believe will enable our licensees to deliver performance that is much more aggressive in the Windows space, whilst still offering excellent power consumption.

Can you say for sure that the new Adobe Flash 10.1 will use the hardware support from your graphic cores?
Flash 10.1 is capable of taking full advantage of hardware support from our POWERVR SGX graphics cores using OpenGL ES 2.0. Whether it actually uses our hardware or not is down to the integration of the Flash player with the OS and silicon platform drivers, and whether the platform has hardware acceleration enabled. We have worked closely with Adobe for the past two years to help them get the maximum performance from OpenGL ES 2.0 in the Flash 10.1 player using POWERVR SGX, and SGX has been used extensively within Adobe for prototyping and testing the Flash 10.1 player.
